We are proud to be supporting 3 pupils in receipt of pupil premium to take clarinet lessons at City Academy Whitehawk, one or our long standing Partner Schools.
When the school told us that they had pupils on who would benefit from learning an instrument with us but there was not enough money to fund them, we supplied 3 loaned clarinets to the school and children share lesson each week. Multi-instrumentalist Charlotte leads the weekly sessions and children are making amazing progress.
Our Teacher Charlotte says:
"The clarinet project at CAW has been tremendously impactful. The children learning have played solo in concerts in assembly and in their class. The school and the class have been very encouraging and the pupils have benefited enormously. One child in particular has a real talent for it and I really hope they take it further. All their sight reading is fantastic and theyve all persevered as its not the easiest instrument for young hands. Congratulations for everyone in CAW for making this happen, and especially to SMS for funding it. What a fabulous opportunity!!

Music Lead Gavin says:
"The clarinet project is such an important addition to City Academy Whitehawk because not only does it introduce pupils to a beautiful and expressive instrument, but also helps to broaden the musical landscape to children in our community.
Learning the clarinet opens a myriad of doors for pupils, whether discovering a rich variety of new musical genres including classical and jazz, developing and refining new musical skills such as reading notation and breath control, as well as offering new pathways into playing with bands and ensembles.
For a school like City Academy Whitehawk, where a vibrant musical culture underpins school life, the clarinet project adds a fresh dimension to what pupils can explore and achieve."
