Sussex Music School is a not-for-profit social enterprise based in Brighton and Hove bringing a fresh approach to local music education. With 30 highly qualified, experienced and passionate teachers , we have been working in partnership with Sussex schools for over 10 years.
​We deliver high quality curriculum music, music consultancy, instrumental lessons and ensembles on a wide range of instruments plus CPD and INSET in Primary and Secondary schools across Sussex.

Piano and Singing Teacher to teach 1-2-1 lessons in a Secondary school in Crawley from January 2026

Pay: £32.24 per hour
Job Description:

We are seeking a dedicated Piano and Singing Teacher to teach 1-2-1 lessons in a Secondary school in Crawley from January 2026. In this role, you will contribute to our mission of providing accessible, high-quality music lessons that inspire and develop students with a range of backgrounds and abilities.
Responsibilities

Deliver engaging, age-appropriate instrumental lessons in schools and to private pupils at agreed locations.

Plan enjoyable lessons that meet pupils’ musical targets and interests.

Prepare pupils for graded exams, performances, and assessments where appropriate.

Keep accurate records of lesson plans, pupil progress, registers of attendance, and reports for schools and the company.

Communicate professionally and promptly with pupils, parents or guardians, and school contacts.

Attend staff meetings, training, school events, and CPD sessions as required.

When teaching hours fall short of the agreed minimum, undertake other reasonable duties for the company as requested by the manager, including administrative tasks, outreach, marketing support, cover teaching, or running workshops.

Maintain professional conduct, confidentiality, and safeguarding standards at all times.

Qualifications
-
Music degree or equivalent, or Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

Grade 8 minimum in principle instrument

Experience of teaching instruments in schools

Ability to work alone and as part of a team

Excellent communication skills and reliability.

Technical Skills: Literate in Microsoft Office applications.

Equipment: Must have own tablet or laptop for planning, record-keeping, and communication.

Checks: Subject to full DBS and background checks before appointment.

Availability: Willingness to work at least one full day per week with Sussex Music School; flexibility to travel between schools and private pupil locations across Sussex.
