CURRICULUM MUSIC

Working with schools to bring music to the Curriculum - consultancy, CPD, INSET, training and music provision in schools across Sussex.
At Sussex Music School, we believe that all children have a right to a good quality Music Education.

Sussex Music School provide National Curriculum lessons in schools. Lessons are well structured for progression but allow space and time for creativity. We also offer INSET (read more).

By becoming a partner school there are so many opportunities open to you and your staff to aid in bringing an effective music provision to reach all pupils.

All
children will learn:

  • Singing

  • Performing skills

  • Music reading skills

  • Improvising

  • Composing

  • Listening skills including to great musicians and composers

Children learn effectively through playing classroom percussion, their own instrument where they learn one outside the
classroom and the use of ICT.

Lessons cover the National Curriculum requirements. In primary
schools, a teaching assistant is expected to be present throughout to aid the visiting teacher as
necessary.

Sessions in Primary schools last ½ hour (KS1) or 45-60 minutes (KS2). A typical secondary lesson lasts 1 hour.

At SMS we believe in developing our music workforce, enabling them to use up-to-date teaching methods and fully understand the needs of each learner. To this end our professional teachers receive ongoing training, monitoring and support from our senior team.

Only the best teachers in the field locally are accredited to SMS. Valuing our teachers is paramount as this will translate into the best musical experiences for our students. To view our code of practice, click here.
