We are thrilled to announce an exciting new project for this summer that we believe will be a wonderful addition to our partnership with SMS schools and for which we are applying for Arts Council Funding - new for 2026. Taking place at Varndean School in July this event introduces students from years 5-10 to the rich and vibrant world of traditional Indonesian music. Gamelan is an ensemble of percussive instruments, including metallophones and gongs, which together create a unique and captivating sound.
Project Highlights:
Interactive Workshops: Students will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on workshops, learning to play various gamelan instruments.
Cultural Exploration: Alongside musical instruction, students will explore the cultural and historical significance of gamelan music.
Take-aways: Lesson plans for before and after the sessions and CPD for primary teachers.
We believe this project will not only enhance students' musical abilities but also broaden their cultural horizons and foster a deeper appreciation for global traditions.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support. We look forward to embarking on this musical journey together!
