Sam Austin is Senior Leader for Instrumental Learning & Partnerships at Sussex Music School. A fully qualified music teacher with extensive experience across curriculum and instrumental music, he is passionate about developing high-quality, inclusive instrumental learning and building strong partnerships that help music thrive in schools and communities.

 

In his role, Sam works closely with teachers, schools, and partner organisations to strengthen instrumental provision, support professional development, and ensure meaningful musical opportunities for children and young people across Sussex.

 

Alongside his leadership responsibilities, Sam remains a committed instrumental teacher who brings a dynamic and engaging approach to his lessons. He believes that every learner has unique goals and learning styles, and creates supportive, inspiring environments where young people can explore their creativity and achieve their full musical potential.

 

Sam studied BA Music at the University of Sussex, gaining a strong foundation in music theory, composition, and performance. He has performed in a wide range of ensembles across jazz, classical, and rock genres. These experiences continue to shape his belief in the transformative power of making music together — developing confidence, collaboration, and a lifelong love of music.
