FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. How much do lessons cost and how will I be billed?
Sussex Music School charge £35 per hour , £26 for 45 minutes, £18 for 30 minutes tuition. You will receive an invoice from us with dates agreed between you and the teacher to be paid a week before the first lesson of any block is to take place . The first lesson is invoiced as a one off so you can be sure you wish to sign up and from there we invoice is blocks of 6, 8 or 10 paid in advance.
2. Can I pay by Standing Order?
We encourage parents to pay by standing order each month in advance. Over the course of a school year we expect to deliver 34 lessons and you will be invoiced on the 1st of the month for lessons. School year runs Sept to July. If you start mid-way through a year, payment will be adapted accordingly and notified to you by SMS Admin. Please refer to our Standing Order Policy and Agreement for more details.
3. Where do the Lessons take place?
Lessons take place at the teachers home studios . Some teacher will come to you at home but a £5.00 fee will be added for each visit to your home to cover travel time and costs.
4. How to I book my lessons ?
You will be put in touch with your most local and suitable teacher to arrange your lessons at a mutually convenient time and date which will stay in place. You may also arrange with the teacher to plan ahead for any holidays you have booked. Lessons are invoiced and administered centrally by our admin.
5. What else do I receive?
• An SMS practice book
• An opportunity to discuss progress regularly with the teacher (usually briefly after each lesson)
• Opportunities for your child to perform at SMS concerts
6. What if a lesson is missed?
If a lesson is missed due to teacher absence/illness the lesson will either be rearranged with mutual agreement or added to the end of the block , whichever is more convenient to the pupil/parent.
If a lesson is missed at short notice due to travel disruption or pupil illness or absence, the lesson cannot be made up or refunded if less than 24 hours notice is given.
If more than 24 hours’ notice is given for unavoidable absence, SMS will only in effect charge for ½ the lesson price and adapt lesson register/ block to reflect this.
In the case of an unforeseen or ongoing medical emergency, SMS may decide to refund on compassionate grounds on teacher recommendation.
7. What if I am Shielding or Isolating ?
If you or your child and/or family have been asked to isolate or shield we will move lessons online until you are able to move back to face to face. Please give the teacher as much notice of this as possible.
8. What if we go into Lockdown ?
All our music teaching is available online and will move to online teaching in the event of Lockdown. If you do not wish to take lessons online lessons will not be refunded but will pause resume when we are able to teach in person.
9. What if My Internet or Computer Fails in an Online lesson?
Please refer to our online lesson handbook for information on the cancellation and failure of technology during online lessons.
10. How do I cancel my music lessons?
Please give us one month’s notice (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you wish to terminate lessons. We will confirm with you the date of the final lesson and refund any money owed to you or invoice for a final amount in the case of those on standing orders.
