Songwriting

Ed PGCE post compulsory education – MA Illustration – BA Fine Arthead and shoulders 3 Ed Boxall

I have been playing guitar, singing and composing songs since my teens.  Music has always gone on alongside my career as a visual artist, author, storyteller and teacher. I’ve performed in bands, duos and solo extensively in pubs and folk clubs. To hear my music please go to http://edboxallmusic.com/

In recent years my music has become an essential part of my professional creative work. This began with writing and performing songs with learning disabled adults with ‘Active Arts’.  It has now become  integral to my storytelling performance and I have run successful songwriting projects with children.

I write and perform interactive songs for pre-school  and infant children. This has been a very well received aspect of my ‘Tales For Toddlers’ sessions at The De La Warr Pavilion, The Jerwood Gallery and on visits to schools.

I run a ‘songwriting choir’ at West Rise Junior School in which children write and perform their songs together. Young singers and instrumentalists  develop playful improvisational skills that complement their structured learning.  It’s an environment for children to  express themselves and enjoy playful non directive learning.

Jana (FLUTE) – Royal Conservatory of Music, Ljubljana, Slovenia – Grade 10 fluteJana photo performance Masters of Music in Flute Performance, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia

I am a passionate, dedicated flute musician and teacher. I have over 20 years’ experiences in teaching flute and recorder individually in groups and ensembles. I have been teaching in UK since 2008, running workshops, soundmakers, individual and group lessons.

I use a creative, flexible and lively approach to teaching and believe that a positive teaching process full of playfulness, encouragement and inspiration are essential to love the music that you make.
I can help you with performance skills, motivation, improvisation and music theory.

I bring my own experience as a classical music solo performer (competitions, concerts, theatre plays), classical chamber music and orchestra performer as well as a member of the Bliss Art band.

I have experience with working with pupils with learning disabilities such as Asperger’s syndrome and Dyslexia. I adapt my teaching approach accordingly for students with specific needs, taking into account such things as understanding the way their brain works and the individual’s characteristics. My experience as a  Gestalt therapist enriches the different approach to teaching. I create a safe space where they can reach their potential.
