Many adults are returning to singing lessons as a way of relaxing after a busy day. There are also opportunities to join a local choir, making it a social activity. Singing a piece by Mozart, a folk song you love or a Jazz standard can also bring a number of health benefits including lowering anxiety, improving sleep, posture and immunity, improving aerobic capacity, and reducing stress as well as giving great personal pleasure.
Children love to sing because of the wide range of pieces and styles available and also the myriad of opportunities there are to perform with others. Every band needs a singer so you are always in demand! There is great opportunity for improvisation and song writing as well as a huge classical repertoire to master. Singing lessons can also enhance skills in mathematics, memory, concentration, resilience and creativity. What’s more, there’s no needs to buy an instrument!
SMS teachers bring out the creative side of their students and will design a study programme based on each individual pupil’s needs – there is no ‘one size fits all’ approach or ‘method’. Practise books and concert opportunities for those who want them, will be provided.

Tina – Dip. Mus., PGCE (Secondary Music), QTS
Tina is a DRB checked music teacher based in Brighton. She has many years experience as a peripatetic tutor of singing and guitar and as a fully qualified classroom music teacher. She has worked in a variety of schools and currently teaches at Sylvia Young Theatre School in London’s West End.
As a professional singer, she has extensive touring experience in the UK and in Europe working with numerous well-known names. Tina’s professional experience enables her to communicate her passion for the subject to students in an engaging and effective manner. She has composed many original songs and has helped students develop their own musical ideas. Tina really enjoys sharing her wealth of live experience, in addition to her extensive theoretical knowledge with her pupils. She believes that music really does make a huge difference to the quality of our lives by giving us a chance to develop emotional intelligence and social skills.
Danielle – Voice – PGDE Primary Ed, Grade 8 Violin
Born in Canada Danielle teaches Violin, Voice and Primary Curriculum Music. She completed a Bachelor of Arts Music (Voice and Music Education) before going on to train as a Kodaly and Orff Music Educator. She is a Fully Qualified Teacher and holds a further degree in Early childhood Music Education. She enjoys teaching baby and toddler groups as well as curriculum music through into secondary school. In the past she has taught Recorder, Ukulele, drumming, and directed musicals. As a performer she has performed in Japan, Canada and Europe in choral, orchestral, folk groups as well as with singer song writers.
