Gareth – Piano, Voice, Flute Music Theory
Gareth has been a conductor, pianist and vocal coach for some thirty years. Career highlights include conducting Strauss’s Der Rosenkavalier and Berlioz’s Damnation of Faust for Glyndebourne Festival Opera, He has also conducted Madame Butterfly, La Bohème and Carmen at the Royal Albert Hall. Concert performances include the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Philharmonia, at the Cheltenham Festival, with whom he has also recorded on the Chandos label.
Gareth conducted Alfie Boe’s debut album and also he has recorded two CDs with the late Suzanne Beer, former Principal with the London Philharmonic Orchestra; Cello Diverse, including Brahms Debussy sonatas and Cinemacello, arrangements (by Gareth) of great classical music used in film and TV. Gareth has also conducted Madama Butterfly for Opera North and Die Fledermaus and Rigoletto for Northern Ireland Opera.
As an accompanist Gareth has broadcast for BBC Radio 3, BBC Wales and Radio France and performed at prestigious venues and festivals throughout the UK. In addition to conducting and playing, Gareth has a wealth of experience as a vocal coach, working across all styles from opera and song to musical theatre. His diverse musical interests include being a founder member of the Colchester New Music Ensemble, a group which promotes compositions by living East Anglian composers. He also enjoyed many years as principal flute with the Essex Youth Orchestra, an extraordinary opportunity which has subsequently played a large part in developing his passion for music education and working with younger students. In his spare times Gareth enjoys reading thrillers, cooking and baking, and family walks with the dog
