Daniel says: “I have been teaching for 12 years in secondary schools, and I consider my key role to be one of encouragement. Whether students are absolute beginners or come with prior knowledge it is always my aim to encourage their development, help them to retain that initial spark, and continue to grow as musicians.
I use a variety of teaching aids comprising guitar tab, standard musical notation and most importantly encouraging them to listen critically and to deconstruct songs in order to understand the guitar’s role within a piece.
Further to my guitar tuition I have run ensemble sessions; incorporating Guitar, Bass Guitar, Keyboards, Vocals and Drums. Drawing on my 25 years’ experience of playing guitar and writing, recording and performing, I aim to expose young musicians to a rehearsal / performance environment to encourage listening skills and general ensemble etiquette.
I have also supported both GCSE and A-level music students, for example by sourcing and recording performance pieces and preparing guitarists for ensemble performances. I also assist students in the composition process by helping them to apply theoretical structures in guitar-centric way.
I always hope, with all my students that they will continue to play and most importantly, create music. “
